This was a 12 year old boys birthday party. The project was to design a team flag and name. The interesting thing was that these boys who are usually boisterous and noisy and very active, spent the good part of an hour talking, planning and painting.
They had fun and thoroghly owned their creations, arguing about who would take it home. Just lovley.
We often have a time to paint freely or draw freely in our home. I find children love to do this. it is calming and a time to express that which they have experienced.
This is a blog about kids and art. We have enormous fun in our classes. We learn along the journey with art... we learn about art and what it is and we explore those artisits who have gone before us. I work from the premise that ALL people can learn how to draw. I hope you feel inspired by some of these ideas just as you have inspired us in some of the projects we have taken on.

An artists beginning
The Bike
I love art. I love looking at other peoples art. I love to paint and draw and create myself. I love seeing others grow in their enjoyment and experience of art and arty things.
I am a teacher by profession and a some what specialist in teaching art, Xhosa and all this in the cocoon of Early Childhood Education. I am married to Doug who is a computer engineer and a creative mind after a sort. We have 4 boys. My life is full of all sorts of people , activities and fun. I run a babes and toddlers music class from my home called Wriggle and Rhyme and you can check out my blog fro more information on that. I teach extra Xhosa lessons to primary school aged children and recently I have begun an art exploration lesson time with a friends children. This exciting new adventure is something I would love to grow.
The picture above is one where the children are drawing in pencil. They are drawing a bicycle . We used Doug's bike as the object to gather information from. We talked a great deal about the bike before the children got busy. The results showed how carefully each child had observed and translated the information onto the paper.
The children in this group are all different ages and so their work reflects their ability according to their age and stage of development. Using the same stimulation, each child gathers information for their drawing in their own way . I love seeing children working and creating. it is a thrill.
