Tooty Frooty!

In this lesson the children had to choose a fruit or a vegetable to draw. First, they drew it as a whole fruit or vegetable. Then we cut it up and they drew two more pictures of the fruit from a different persective.

I hope you can spot the kinds of fruit and vegetables  these children chose to draw and I hope that you enjoy these as much as I did:)

We moved on to painting the food with acrylic paints using as realistic colour matching as possible.
Don't you just love the shadow in this one?

This young child did a great job in capturing the orange and its segements.

I love this delicious looking apple half.

Each child had to decide on a colour background . I love the choices.

This gem squash comes alive with its beautiful shape and colour.
Another point of view. The pips of the gem squash are carefully painted in .

We end woth this delightful onion. I love the shadow attempt in the work and also the carefully worked in skin of the onion. Well done!!

                                                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd64Aj9ryyo - Chameloens are Cool
                                                                                                                                      youtube!!
The children had to decide.... "do I want to paint my Chameleon in warm or in cold colours?"

These are some of the results!!  I love, love these two guys here below. They are almost prehistoric.

I hope you enjoy the results as much as we enjoyed painting these.

The background was chosen as the opposite of either warm, or cool colours. Well done you budding artisits!!

The Chameleon Part 1

It is the holidays. In South Africa, we have a longish holiday in June/July. It is cold and wet in Cape Town. The children need something to keep them busy and , I feel engaged. I have offered these classes for the first time this year. They have been full!!
WE began with the Chameleon. This is one of my favourite lessons. After listening to the book called Chameleons are Cool by  Martin Jenkins    , we began to draw our chosen creature using a B pencil.
Here are some of the beautiful works of art. The youngest amoung is was only 3 years old:)

Here the children are very busy at looking and drawing.

Here, this little girl began to paint her picture after drawing in all the shapes with black felt tip pen. Her work is beautiful!!!

At the end I always ask the children to tell me which part they love the best. .....to be continued.
