Art with little children

 This term I started a group for children who are 4-6 years old. We have had enormous fun so far. I have been introducing them to the language of art  with ideas like shape - curved and straight lines- closed and open shapes.

 Here the children made their very own closed shapes with curved and straight lines and then used colour to fill in the spaces.

 Splattering with white and black over the final creation finished off these wonderful works.

Fauvism come alive in Self

I love teaching art. I say teaching in  a very, very loose way. I really am an art facilitator and encourager. I create an environment for children to create and explore.

 This was an exploration of self.

 The children drew themselves by looking in the mirror. We talked about the position of eyes and nose and mouth as well as the ears on  a face. The children then set about drawing.

 Here they are enjoying the warm summers day in Cape Town while they work.

 We looked at colour and we looked at the Fauvist movement.  The children used colour to enrich their self portrait:). Just lovley.
