The Egg

This week we drew an egg!
If you have ever tried to draw and egg, you will immediately know that this is not easy.
I was excited to see what these children would make of it.

We drew in pencil.
I walked them through concepts around
*shadow
*dark and light parts of the egg
* the point of light
* the intensity of the dark places
* the bouncing back of light onto the egg

These are all what I like to call the science of art!

The work was beautiful.
These children really worked very well and percervered.

Here are the examples!!
well done!

I asked the children some questions about shading.... here is what  some of them  said.

Matty -7 - When you give something shadow.
Stephen - 7 - When you make something look 3D.
Naive- 9- using pencil to make shadow. using a pencil to make the light shine on an egg.
Andrea-6- I used a pencil I shaded dark around the egg. It made a shadow.
Sisipho - 9 - shading by using dark colour and light colour. it made the egg look round.
Leanna- You can use your finger and pencil to make the egg seem round.
Sarah - 9 - Shading is about light and dark in parts.
Aiden -11 - it is filling in shape with different types of pencil marks.
Killian 9 - shading is when you press hard with your pencil to make weight and to give some shape.
Ethan 9- I coloured in lightly and then dark,
Sean - 9 - I  also used an eraser. We are giving weight and making it look realisticand round.
Cathryn - 6 - shading is making the shadow dark and the egg dark.:)
Liam - 9 - shading is when you make something dark and give it weight.
Drew - I drew the egg and then the shadow. On the dark bits I pressed hard and on the light bits I pressed light.

Nice. I love these ideas!!
